Knowing the date was as important to the Maya as it is to us now! Every inscription began with the date. Their calendars were very precise and helped them to record the movements and positions of stars and planets in the night sky (astronomy)

This artefact displays a 3D model of a Maya calendar wheel. There are 3 separate wheels, which when tapped will spin around to the next slot on the wheel, changing the date.

This artefact plays a short audio track demonstrating the correct way to pronounce "Tzolk'in", one part of the Maya calendar.
